Invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Balázs Zábori, aerospace engineer at the EK Space Research Department, program manager of the Hungarian HUNOR astronaut programme, had a talk entitled Space Dosimetry - Hungarian Innovations at the meeting of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) on 11 February 2022. COPUOS is one of the largest committees of the United Nations, which is mainly concerned with coordinating international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space, and of which Hungary has been a member since 1959.
In his presentation, Balázs Zábori gave an overview of the participation of the Centre for Energy Research in the Artemis program (participation in the MARE experiment and the leadership of the IDA experiment) and the Mars Sample Return mission Earth Return Orbiter (MSR-ERO). In the frame of the latter program, Hungary will be the first to build a complex cosmic ray and dosimetry measurement system for the first mission of mankind to return from Mars.
